Head Instructor: Paul Manogue

Paul Manogue has been studying the martial arts since 1981. He has practiced Korean and Japanese karate, judo, western foil and saber fencing, and western boxing. While living in Japan in 1988 he began studying Yoshinkan aikido under Gozo Shioda Kancho at the honbu dojo.  He continued in Yoshinkan aikido upon returning to Philadelphia to finish University under Utada Yukio sensei.   in 1991 he returned to Japan and Started training in the Osaka Buikukai under Yoshida Koichi sensei, Kimura Jiro sensei, and the founder of the Buikukai Kobayashi Hirokazu sensei under whom he earned his first degree black belt in aikido.  in 1994 returning to the United States he began training under the late Henry Smith shihan. Greg O'Connor sensei, the late Rick Stickles shihan and is currently training under Hal Leherman shihan of Aikido of Park Slope.  He is a 6th degree black belt and a certified instructor and shidoin under Yamada Yoshimitsu shihan and the United States Aikido Federation.  In addition to Aikido of Raritan Valley Manogue sensei has been the instructor of the Rider University Aikido club since 2017.

While in Japan, Manogue-sensei studied Edo Yagyu Shinkage Ryu directly under the 17th and then-current headmaster, Sono Seiko, while also training in Tennen Rishin Ryu, Niten Ichi Ryu under the headmaster Miyagawa Morito sensei, Shindo Muso Ryu, Bujinkan Ninpo, and Tai Chi in the Chen Pan Ling lineage.   Manogue sensei continues to explore other martial arts as well, including Jun Fan Gung Fu, Kali, Silat, Machado Jiujitsu, Muay Thai, and Capoeira, ans has also become a certified coach in Original Strength.   Manogue sensei also continues to teach Yagyu shinkage ryu and succeeded his teacher Sono Seiko sensei as the 18th headmaster.
